Delta, American, Hawaiian and United win tentative Haneda slots

Four US carriers – Delta Air Lines, American Airlines Group, Hawaiian Holdings and United Continental Holdings – have won tentative approval to launch daytime US flights to Tokyo’s Haneda airport. The airlines could start flights as soon as the Autumn. Previously US carriers could only leave and land in Haneda at late hours in the night.

A final decision will be issued after a public comment period and service must begin within 90 days after the decision.

US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said: “The availability of daytime access to Tokyo’s centrally located Haneda Airport will create more choice and convenience for both business and leisure travellers, and advances the Department’s work to increase competition and bring enhanced service options to the marketplace,” said Secretary Foxx.
