The US Department of Transportation has granted antitrust immunity for a new joint trans-Pacific airline venture to be operated by United Airlines, Continental Airlines and Japan’s ANA. The new venture will enable the airlines to jointly develop flight schedules and sales activities and compete more effectively with other global alliances. A statement from the airline said: “Customers traveling between the Americas and Asia will enjoy more convenient flight schedules, with a broader range of fare and product options, once the joint venture is implemented.”
