Japan Airlines (JAL) has posted a net profit of ¥12.76 billion ($165.4 million) for the first quarter despite the falloff in traffic following the March 11 disaster. JAL’s operating profit was ¥17.17 billion for the quarter ended June, about 23% of its targeted operating profit of ¥75.7 billion for the fiscal year ending March 2012. For the year-earlier first quarter, JAL reported an operating profit of around ¥18 billion but didn’t disclose the net profit figure. It suffered a net loss of ¥99 billion for the first quarter of the year ended March 2010.
