SMBC Aviation Capital concludes ten aircraft deal with Aeromexico

SMBC Aviation Capital and Aeromexico have signed an agreement for the purchase and leaseback of 10 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, which includes a pre-delivery payment (PDP) facility for all ten aircraft.  This transaction represents SMBC Aviation Capital’s largest ever transaction with Aeromexico and will support the airline’s transition into today’s newest generation Boeing narrowbody aircraft.

The aircraft covered by this transaction are scheduled to deliver between 2018 and 2020 and will be made up of eight 737 MAX 8 aircraft and two 737 MAX 9 aircraft and will be equipped with CFM International LEAP-1B engines.

Andrés Conesa, CEO of Aeromexico stated, “We are very pleased to establish this agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital. Our intention is to provide our customers with the latest and newest advancements in passenger comfort. This is further evidence of our commitment to offer a state of the art fleet adding up to 90 Boeing 737 MAX airliners and up to 19 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.”

Peter Barrett, CEO, SMBC Aviation Capital added, “We are very pleased to conclude this transaction with Aeromexico, one of SMBC Aviation Capital’s longest airline customer relationships dating back to 2002. This is our single largest transaction with Aeromexico and is further evidence of our long standing commitment to Aeromexico and to the Mexican aviation market. Further, it demonstrates our unique capabilities to provide our customers with comprehensive financing solutions. We look forward to continuing to support Aeromexico’s fleet renewal plans in the years to come.”

SMBC Aviation Capital has an order for 90 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, originally placed in 2014 and 2015.
