BOC Aviation delivers first of four Boeing aircraft to Lion Air

BOC Aviation has entered into a purchase and leaseback transaction with P.T. Lion Mentari (Lion Air Group) comprising two 737-800s and two 737-900ERs.

The first of the two 737-900ER aircraft in the transaction was delivered on 28 July 2016. BOC Aviation has provided purchase-and-leaseback solutions to Lion Air Group since 2012, covering more than 20 737NGs.

“Indonesia is an important market both for business and leisure travel, and we are pleased to join forces with Lion Air Group once again to deliver a tailored financing solution to support Lion’s growth strategy,” said Robert Martin, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of BOC Aviation. “Indonesia continues to provide exciting and challenging growth for us, and we are pleased to collaborate with BOC Aviation for the fourth time in financing solutions for our 737NG aircraft delivery stream supporting the Lion Air Group of airlines’ operations across Southeast Asia,” said Edward Sirait, Chief Executive Officer of Lion Air Group. Lion Air Group is a group of airlines headquartered in Indonesia and comprising the following brands: Lion Air, Wings, Batik Air, Malindo Air and Thai Lion Air. The group, which has the largest market share in Indonesia, was founded in 2000 with one aircraft and now operates a fleet of 230 aircraft. It is the launch customer of the Boeing 737-900ER and will also be the first to fly the Boeing MAX-8 and the launch customer of Boeing MAX-9.
