Qantas engineers’ union wants all the airline’s A380s brought in for checks on potential cracks in the wings.

The European Aviation Safety Agency order for immediate visual checks on A380s after cracking found in recent inspection of aircraft, including one operated by Emirates, was found to be more serious than the original problem discovered by Qantas.

Despite this EASA ruling not applying to the A380s flown by Qantas, the Australian Licenced Aircraft Engineers Association wants the aircraft to be brought in progressively over coming weeks for checks. “We think all A380 aircraft in all fleets should be inspected,” said ALAEA president Paul Cousins.
