Norwegian Air International to fly from Shannon Airport?

Media reports are circulating that Norwegian Air International, the Irish based subsidiary of Norwegian Air, has reached an agreement with Shannon Airport to potentially launch transatlantic flights once, and if, the airline gains approval from the US Department of Transportation.
The airline has a similar deal on the table with Cork Airport. Norwegian wants to fly four times a week from Cork to Boston but has been unable to convince the DOT. Should the airline be granted rights to fly to the US, Shannon Airports offers passengers the opportunity to use the US Custom and Border Protection pre-clearance.

A Shannon Airport spokesman said: “We have a deal in place with Norwegian Airlines, having commenced discussions with them in 2014. This is dependent on licencing from the US authorities and we are supporting the airline in this through our network in the US and here in Ireland.”
