Airberlin increases capacity utilisation

Airberlin is optimizing its route network and offering more flights on well-established routes. The airline states that the “success of this strategy is reflected in a continuously increasing seat capacity utilization rate”.
In March 2013, the German airline was able to increase capacity utilisation by 4.7 percentage points, to 87.73%. In total, airberlin flew 2,360,545 passengers for the month of March.
Whereas in the context of its flight route optimization plan, airberlin reduced its available seat kilometers by 10.3%, to 4.29 billion, the revenue passenger kilometers only decreased by 5.2%, to 3.77 billion.
For the months January to March of the year 2013, airberlin increased capacity utilization by 2.7 percentage points in yearly comparison, and flew 5,919,050 passengers. The available seat kilometers amounted to 11.16 billion and the revenue passenger kilometers to 9.55 billion.
For 2013, airberlin has changed the way it calculates its seat capacity utilization. The capacity utilization calculation is now determined according to the sector standard, and the revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) are compared to the available seat kilometers (ASK).
