Airports in Australia may face operational disruptions on December 9 2022 as the United Firefighters Union (UFU) – Aviation Branch is planning to go on strike. A total of 27 airports might feel the impact, not directly as it would not cause any flight cancellations but considering the operational safety and lack of functioning fire crew on site might cause some cancellations and delays. The strike is over a longstanding disagreement regarding staffing levels and pay. The airport firefighters receive approximately $28,000 to $77,000 per annum. The Union has threatened to call for further strikes closer to the holiday period
