Lockheed Martin’s Sikorsky helicopter manufacturing unit plans to build a hybrid-electric VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft. “Autonomy and electrification will bring transformational change to flight safety and operational efficiency of large VTOL aircraft,” said Sikorsky president Paul Lemmo. The company is working with GE Aviation to design and build the aircraft’s hybrid power systems.
