The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has ordered Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to clear $48 million in unpaid debts in order to continue operating, including Hajj flights. Pakistan’s finance minister Ishaq Dar has revealed that the GACA has warned that unless the dues are cleared the return journey of 50,000 Hajj pilgrims will not begin. As of now the ECC has released around PKR 4 bn of the total PKR 22 bn in pending lawsuits against the airline. This might lead PIA to bankruptcy.
