Venezuelan carrier Conviasa has wet-leased an AirAsia X A340-300 to cover an operational shortfall on its long-haul routes. The aircraft is used on Conviasa’s Caracas to Buenos Aires and Madrid Barajas routes replacing a Hi Fly A310-300, and a Dynamic Airways B767-200ER.Conviasa’s own A340 is currently impounded at Bordeaux due to unpaid maintenance debts, so the airline has had to resort to foreign ACMI providers in order to maintain its schedules. The airline attributed its current issues to Venezuela’s ongoing foreign currency liquidity problems.
