A United Airlines flight from Washington Dulles bound Cancun, was forced to land in Havana, Cuba, on Sunday when the flight crew detected “a strange odor” in the cockpit. Passengers from the Airbus A320  were “reaccommodated … on a different flight,” says United. The airline was forced to fly in another aircraft to do this, which landed in Havana just after noon local time and was on the ground until 5 pm. US scheduled commercial airline flights are not permitted to fly between the U.S. and Cuba, although some charter flights are.
