The Department of Transportation has been awarded one of six slots of Tokyo’s Haneda Airport to Hawaiian Airlines, which will an overnight route from Honolulu and Kona, Hawaii. Five more daytime slots are still to be awarded by the DOT. In the running are American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United. Hawaiian was chosen because no other airline submitted a request for the overnight slot. “Hawaiian, and Hawaiian alone, requested the nighttime slot pair, and the Department finds that prompt approval of Hawaiian’s request is consistent with the public interest,” the ruling said.
