Nok Air Q3 loss

Thai low-cost carrier Nok Air has posted a net loss of TBH353.3 million ($10.8 million) during the third quarter, compared to a net profit of THB244.6 million in Q32013. Revenue was flat at THB2.8 billion, but costs rose 24% to THB3.12 billion.

The airline’s load factor rose by nine percentage points to 84.2% during the third quarter, but yield fell 19.15%. ASKs rose 20.56% to 1.27 billion, with RPKs up by 21.87% to 1.07 billion compared to the year-ago period.

The airline blamed the poor domestic economy and intense competition causing a surplus of domestic capacity, with discount pricing biting into profits.
