Despite expectations, Japan Airlines (JAL) is reluctant to change its business model to launch a low cost carrier. JAL chairman Kazuo Inamori said the airline should focus on high-quality service instead. “JAL’s earnings are recovering, but I think we should refrain from chasing after scale expansion,” he said. “Look at the US example, where many low-cost carriers that entered the market have since exited.”
