Spanish airline Iberia said it has removed single-use plastic bags, wrappers and containers from its on-board service. The reduction will see the International Airlines Group carrier cut its plastic use by around 200 tonnes. The announcement came on World Recycling Day on May 17. The carrier said it in 2022 recycled 43% of the waste generated on board, including 72 tonnes of glass. Among the initiatives undertaken have been replacing cutlery, stirrers, and plastic straws for others made of more sustainable materials such as bamboo and paper, and using cardboard instead of a plastic bag to wrap the linen blankets
