EUROPEAN CERTIFICATE FOR BOEING 787 EXPECTED LATER THIS YEAR

European certification of Boeing 787 is expected to be approved between the middle of this year and the end, according Patrick Goudou, executive director of European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

Goudou said at a briefing in Paris yesterday that he hoped the European and US certifications for the 787 would be almost simultaneous, but warned it was difficult to predict an accurate timeline because of the trouble the program has experienced.

Boeing’s first 787 is schedule for delivery later this year to All Nippon Airways, which was supposed to take delivery this quarter.

Goudou said that the 787 certification could be more expensive to certify than the A380, which took five years and cost €2 million a year.
