Saudi Arabia suspends all flights to Canada

Saudi Arabia’s state airline will suspend all flights to and from Toronto starting next week, due to a diplomatic row that has escalated between the two countries. The breakdown in relations began last week after the Canadian Foreign Ministry expressed concern over the arrests of activists in Saudi Arabia in a series of tweets. The Saudi Foreign Ministry accused the Canadian government of “blatant interference in the Kingdom’s domestic affairs.” And in response, Riyadh expelled the Canadian ambassador and froze all new trade and investment with Canada.

The Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland responded with the statement: “Canada will always stand up for the protection of human rights, including women’s rights and freedom of expression around the world.”
