Centurion faces further action over unpaid debts

Further to last week’s report on Centurion Air Cargo’s ongoing legal actions with fuel suppliers, the Miami-based freight carrier is now faced with further action from a group of five Irish statutory trusts. Florida media has reported that the group has filed a claim against the airline and its parent, SkyLease Cargo, over $10.2million in unpaid lease payments owed on five aircraft: one B747-400(F) and four MD-11(F)s.

The plaintiffs are demanding Centurion return its aircraft, but the airline has steadfastly refused. The aircraft have an estimated value of $66.9million.

Last week, Centurion’s fuel supplier, Chemoil Corp., had also filed several lawsuits against it over $12.9million in outstanding fuel bills owed on 11 aircraft. Chemoil had moved to repossess the aircraft, including the five mentioned above, as a means of settling the debt.
