Virgin Atlantic pilots to strike

Virgin Atlantic airline pilots have voted in favour of industrial action over the holiday period in a bid to force the carrier to recognise the Professional Pilots Union (PPU). The PPU said that strikes were necessary after being excluded from negotiations on new terms and conditions.

The PPU represents 400 of Virgin’s 900 pilots but Virgin recognises only the British Airline Pilots Association (Balpa).

PPU pilots plan to strike December 22-25, December 30-January 2 and January 4-7.

Virgin said: “A small number of our pilots have voted for industrial action. Our absolute priority is to ensure that all of our customers can continue their journeys as planned this Christmas, and we’re working hard to protect all of their trips.”
