On October 13, United Airlines was forced to delay flights system wide when it experience issues with its weight reporting system. The problem was resolved by 3 a.m. eastern time (0700 GMT) on Friday October 14. This is the third computer glitch affecting United Airlines flights this year. In June, software needed to dispatch United’s flight plan briefly lost functionality; in July a computer issue blocked access to reservations records. Following this incident, United stated that it had invested in back-up plans, which evidently are not robust enough.
