Ryanair confident on EU approval for Aer Lingus bid

Ryanair is confident that a new package of remedies proposed to allay competition concerns over its latest bid for rival Aer Lingus “will be enough to satisfy competition issues,” says chief executive Michael O’Leary.
The European Commission has launched an in-depth investigation into the bid, Ryanair’s third bid for Aer Lingus, last week.
“There are 46 cross over routes and we will remedy all of them by getting airlines to come to Dublin and take them over,” O’Leary added, referring to routes on which both Ryanair and Aer Lingus operate.
O’Leary also confirmed at the same news conference that it is seeking to buy no more than a 24.9% stake in Stansted airport to avoid regulatory issues. The airline is in talks with “a number of potential bidders” to bid with the airline in a consortium offer.
