Chief executive of Virgin Australia, John Borghetti, says the airline hopes to make a decision on new, fuel-efficient aircraft in the next 12 months but it has yet to issue a request for proposals from manufacturers. The airline will be considering the 787 and the A350 but Borghetti also indicated the airline could extend its A330 fleet. Virgin Australia has already ordered 23 737MAX aircraft due to enter the fleet in 2019 and has reconfigured existing 737 orders to match it.
