NTSB investigating Southwest runway incident

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating an incident involving a Southwest Airlines aircraft, which narrowly missed hitting a smaller jet on the runway. The Southwest aircraft has just landed at Chicago’s Midway Airport last month and was preparing to cross a runway when the co-pilot yelled at the pilot to stop to avoid hitting a Learjet that was taking off. The aircraft came within 300 feet of each other.
“Air traffic control did not cancel the takeoff clearance of the (Learjet) nor direct the (Southwest plane) to hold short of runway 31R,” the safety board said.
Southwest is cooperating with federal officials.
