IAA: Strong 5.5% air traffic growth through Irish airspace in April

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) confirmed that total air traffic safely handled by the IAA increased by 5.5% (94,316 movement) in April 2017 compared to the same month in 2016.

North Atlantic Communications flights (Europe /US Flights) saw an increase of +5.5% in April 2017 to 40,114, when compared to April 2016. Similarly, there was an increase of +5.4% in Ireland’s overflight traffic movements (flights, which do not land in Ireland) to 28,738 during April 2017. Ireland is the gateway between Europe and North America and handles up to 90% of all traffic between the two continents.

In relation to international arrivals and departures, the commercial terminal traffic for Shannon, Dublin and Cork airports was up by +2.6% in April 2017, when compared to April 2016.

An analysis of the April 2017 data, from EUROCONTROL, also shows that six of Ireland’s Top ten “Airport Pairs” grew during the month. The most significant growth was for Schiphol/Amsterdam – Dublin (+43.7%), Newark – London/Heathrow (+13.2%) and Edinburgh – Dublin (+6.9%).
