An analyst at Societe Generale has declared that the European Union (EU) is close to backing down on continuing with its emissions Trading Scheme once the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) proposes a global program. Yesterday some of the largest airlines in Europe called on ICAO to find a compromise on aviation carbon charges. ICAO has indicated it will propose a global emissions program later this year.
