Dozens of flights have been cancelled at Catania’s airport due to the eruption of Mount Etna, Europe’s biggest volcano. According to UK-based aviation analytics provider Cirum, 44 departures and 24 arrivals had been affected by the evening of May 21 as ash fell on the runway. The following day Air Serbia announced it was cancelling its Belgrade-Catania flights. The airport is around 30 kilometres from the volcano.
