Virgin Australia was one of many airlines globally to experience an outage with the Sabre booking system. Sabre, which is a third-party IT system that airlines use for check-in, boarding and flight bookings, has advised that the outage was due to a hardware issue. In a statement, Virgin Australia said that while the system outage has since been resolved, the impacts on guests were felt right across its domestic network, and has apologised for any disruption caused. “We are working closely with Sabre to ensure that necessary measures are taken to prevent these outages from reoccurring,” said the airline.
