This week during the visit of the Chinese president to the US, GE plans to sign a joint-venture agreement with Chinese aircraft manufacturer COMAC. GE plans to share its most sophisticated aircraft electronics, including that used in the 787, with the company as a price for being allowed to do business in China. Multinationals are often asked to do this by the Chinese government in the hope sharing trade secrets could enable Chinese companies to perform better and manufacture goods more cheaply.
