Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University officials have stated that Leesburg International Airport is the ideal site for aircraft repairs, manufacturing aviation components, and avionics training. Leesburg has “the capabilities to support the aviation aerospace industry for the long term,” said Dr Robert Materna, director of the Center for Aviation and Aerospace Leadership at Embry-Riddle. Materna was joined by other Embry-Riddle officials at a two-day visioning session with Leesburg city commissioners, business leaders, and county and state officials at Lake-Sumter Community College earlier this month. The goal was to develop a unified plan for promoting the city to aerospace manufacturers.
