The Professional Pilots Union (PPU), which represents some 400 Virgin Atlantic pilots, has balloted its members over potential industrial action over the holiday period this December in protest at a change to its benefits package. Virgin Atlantic does not officially recognise the PPU at the moment but does recognise the British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA).   The changes the airline has initiated for workers include capping an income protection scheme at five years; cancelling a dependants’ pension scheme; and reducing corporate pension contributions from 15 to 10%.
