Statistics from the US Department of Transportation show that US airlines’ work force on a full-time equivalent basis rose 2.1% to 384,974 in May compared to a year earlier. Employment in the sector has now shown growth for the past six months as demand continues an upward swing. Delta Air Lines workforce grew by 4.9%, but Virgin America made the greatest gains as a growing airline with a 28% increase. Spirit Airlines had 12% more employees.  There were some declines however. Alaska Air dropped 2.3% , while Allegiant’s employee numbers fell 6%.
