Official US government data published on May 11 show the nation’s airlines carried 64.6 million “scheduled service” passengers in February 2023. Released by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), the data showed traffic was up 1.1% from January 2023 but down 4.8% compared with “the all-time high” recorded in January 2020. The number was 142% higher than in February 2021, at the height of pandemic travel restrictions. More than 56 million of the February 2023 passengers were domestic, the BTS numbers showed, with eight million international passengers documented in the data, which is taken from reports filed to the BTS
