Qantas has confirmed that it will not move existing heavy maintenance jobs offshore but it also refused to act on union demands to bring A380 maintenance back to Australia. Qantas is also pushing ahead with plans to consolidate its three Australian operations, an unacceptable move by unions, which have called on the airline to guarantee that heavy maintenance of the A380 and Boeing 787 fleet would be carried out in Australia, and urged federal and state governments to invest in infrastructure to keep Australian engineering viable.
