Qantas in agreement with engineers

Qantas has reached a compromise with its engineers. Under the terms of the agreement, Qantas will be able to assign some basic maintenance work to lower-skilled, younger, engineers although it does not contain any of the restrictive demands that would have handed control of parts of the airline to the union, said Alan Joyce, Qantas chief executive. Discussions with its pilots and ground crew unions will last into 2012.
