Although a year remains on the existing codeshare agreement between Qantas and South African Airways, the Australian airline is looking at alternative arrangements. Analysts predict that Qantas is most likely to fly its own aircraft on the Sydney-Johannesburg route but send Perth passengers via Dubai with codeshare partner Emirates. Perth is currently serviced six times a week by South African Airways. SAA has indicated in the past that the Perth flight is only marginally profitable and may not be viable without the codeshare.
