Virgin America has posted a second-quarter net loss of $31.8 million. Although this is an improvement on the $21.7 million loss it posted in the same period last year. The airline’s revenue increased by 29% to $347 million. Operating expenses rose by 28% to $351.4 million, which resulted in an operating loss of $4 million – an improvement on the $6million loss posted last year. RPMs were up by 27% on a 32% rise in capacity, with a load factor of 80%. RASM dropped by 2% however during the period as CASM ex-fuel decreased by 1.5%.
