Fares rises boost US carrier share prices

Successful fare increases to counter the cost of fuel have boosted share price of US carriers. Southwest Airlines’ $10 hike in a round trip ticket, which was quickly matched by several large airlines, boosted airline share values.
In afternoon trading, Southwest shares rose 3.6% to $9.46, while United Continental Holdings rose 5.6% to $19.43 and Delta Air Lines gained 3.4% to $9.44. US Airways Group benefited from a 5% rise to $10.59.
