Ethiopian Airlines is moving to cut costs to save up to one billion birr in the face of soaring oil prices. Measures include requesting employees relinquish a percentage of their salaries, soliciting free over time service, increasing customers, reducing waste, offering maintenance service for other airlines, and negotiating a reduction on the lease paid on rented aircraft. Pilots were asked to relinquish 10% of their salary to offset costs while technicians were cautioned to avoid accidental damages which amounted to an estimated $1.5 million dollars in repairs over the past few months alone.
