Passenger numbers for low-cost airlines IndiGo and SpiceJet has risen thanks to a doubling of bookings from corporate passengers. Numbers have risen by 16% in the last two years as businesses try to keep travelling expenses as low as possible during the economic downturn. A SpiceJet executive commented to local media that the revenue from corporate and business travel contributed 13% to the airline’s total revenue in 2009-10 against 5% in 2008-2009 SpiceJet claims to have nearly 1,000 corporate executives that regularly fly with them; IndiGo boasts similar claims.
