Latvian carrier airBaltic saw passenger traffic climb by 62% year-on-year in December to almost 290,000 as numbers revived post-pandemic. The number of flights for the month was up 12% on December 2021, t0 3,140, the carrier said. Chief executive Martin Gauss said the December numbers were down to a “very promising” winter season and a reflection of airBaltic’s growing range of destinations from Riga and Tampere. The carrier said on January 4 it recruited over 900 new staff in 2022 as demand for travel climbed across Europe.
