Air Algerie cabin crew have gone on strike over a dispute over pay, which severely disrupted traffic at Algiers international airport yesterday and left hundreds of passengers stranded in French airports. The strike began on Monday and caused the airport to cancel 146 out of 186 scheduled flights. The airline has agreed to grant a 20% pay rise but argues it cannot afford the 106% pay hike sought by the strikers. More flights have been cancelled today and the backlog of passengers stranded mainly in Algerian and French airports is continuing to grow.
