SpiceJet fleet expansion plans

SpiceJet chairman Ajay Singh has stated that the airline plans to embark on a major fleet expansion and increase existing frequencies. The airline has made a dramatic recovery over the past few months, returning from the brink of collapse to increasing its domestic market share to 12.8% in March 2016.

SpiceJet is also planning to add new ancillary services, including door-to-door cargo, and pitching for ground-handling for self and other carriers.

“Things are going well for us. We had a 92-percent-plus load factor for the last 10 months — the highest in the country,” Singh told local media…. “The fact that so many people have come back to fly with us shows that the confidence they had lost in the airline has clearly come back.”

Lease on SpiceJet’s current fleet of 26 737s, three A320s/A319s and 14 Q400s and due to expire soon and are planned to be replaced with more dry-leased aircraft. Wet leases that expired at the end of May and June will be replaced by dry-leased aircraft, Singh confirmed. He will then turn his attention to a sizeable manufacturer order.
