Possible strike action ahead for Cargolux over slow motion takeover by Qatar

Qatar Airways, which is reportedly willing to increase its shareholding to 49% from 35% via a capital increase in Cargolux, seems to be drawing unwanted attention in the local media that is fueling resentment.
Unions are now calling for the nomination of a neutral chairman “who represents the interest of Luxembourg and of Cargolux”. They are also calling for more information on the strategic partnership of Cargolux and Qatar Airways in what they are now seeing as a slow motion takeover by the Gulf airline. Unions had threatened to strike but it was averted after a meeting Monday with the minister of transport, who told unions the company’s current shareholding ratio will remain unchanged for the moment.
