GREAT NEWS FOR US CARRIERS AS THEY FINALLY SEEM TO HAVE CRACKED THE FARE INCREASE BARRIER

Airlines in the US, with few exceptions, are following American Airlines to increase fares virtually guaranteeing the move as one of the few attempts at industry-wide fare increases to come off in recent months. Throughout Tuesday both legacy network and low cost airlines matched the fare rises including, Continental, Delta, United, US Airways , Virgin America, Alaska, Frontier and Southwest. Domestic airlines in the US have struggled to raise base airfare prices this year as numerous tries have crumbled due to lack of unanimous participation. With fuel prices increasing it is likely that US carriers will move to impose fuel surcharges of some sort in the near future, these fare increases will give breathing space for the time being.
