AirTran Holdings, parent of AirTran Airways, has reported third-quarter net income of $36.3 million, tripling the $10.4 million profit in the sma period in 2009. Revenue rose 11.8% to $667.9 million, with expenses up 9.1% to $611.3 million and an operating income of $56.7 million. Third-quarter traffic increased 1.9% year-over-year to 5.27 billion RPMs, producing a load factor of 84.1%. The airline, which is merging with Southwest, has reached an agreement with its 1,700 pilots on a new labour contract. If the pilots vote in favour of the deal, it will take effect by December 1.
