Wizz Air has received regulatory approval to operate flights between the United Kingdom and the US.
However, the airline said it has “no plans” to launch regular commercial routes. Instead, the airline said the approval will allow it to operate charter flights to the US.
“This approval opens the door for tailored charter flights across the Atlantic — particularly for European football teams and supporters travelling to the World Cup this summer, as well as tour operators organising group travel to the US,” Wizz Air said.
“Receiving approval to operate between the UK and the USA is a huge milestone for our company," said Wizz Air UK managing director Yvonne Moynihan. "We’re excited about the opportunities this creates, especially for football teams and fans travelling to the US this summer.”
The airline has now opened charter enquiries for summer travel.
