Airlines for America are predicting 246.1 million passengers to fly during the summer season, a 3.7% increase over a record set last year.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) also predicts a record number of air travellers at airport screening lines from Memorial Day weekend through Labour Day.
The surge in demand is attributed to the strong economy, low unemployment and relatively inexpensive fares.
