United Airlines 787-9 makes emergency landing after 'possible engine fire'

United Airlines was forced to make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Monday.

United Airlines flight 2127 was bound for Newark, New Jersey, but turned back around 40 minutes into the journey after pilots were alerted to a “possible engine fire”.

The 787-9 aircraft returned to LAX safely with no serious injuries reported. United powers its 787s with GE Aerospace's GEnx engines.

Customers onboard deplaned via slides and airstairs and were transferred to the terminal via busses.

“We are grateful to our pilots and flight attendants for their quick actions to keep our customers safe,” United said in a statement.

The airline arranged for an alternative aircraft to transfer the passengers to Newark.
